More Than Just a Cup
I have a couple stories I want to share. Last weekend, I had a young lady come to my booth. I asked her what kind of coffee she liked and she said “I just like coffee”. She ended up picking out the Guatemala based on how it smelled. I went on to tell her about the coffee and that she should try it before she bought a bag. Honey process coffee’s are not always for everyone. I poured her a sample and a huge smile appeared on her face as she tried it. She jumped up and down while asking to buy a bag.
When I started this adventure into roasting, I would not have been able to tell you the difference between specialty coffee and store bought coffee. I just knew I wanted something better. Along the way, I have had a few cups that have completely changed the way I think about coffee. Such as, my first Geisha pour over, my first light roast cortado, or a very interesting Brazil at the Philidelphia airport. That last one is the one I want to talk about. Brazilian coffee is not my favorite origin. Nothing against it, just not my personal preference. this one was no different in that regard. However, it did something interesting that made it memorable. I still think about it. One of the interesting things about coffee is that flavors change as it cools. This coffee took this to a level I had not experienced. Every sip I took there were new flavors. Multiple times I was about to throw it away. I kept pulled me back because I wanted to see what the new interesting notes I could find next.
Circling back to the lady at my booth. I love coffee that takes you on a journey and lets your experience coffee in a new way. I hope that is what she was experiencing when she tried that sample. That is what makes these incredibly busy weeks worth it. I hope that every coffee from The Daily Roast lets you have a new coffee experience. Whether it’s not your personal preference or it’s the best cup you have ever had. Hopefully it is the later.
